Music… On the radio?

So you are going on a long roadtrip? Just moved to a new place? Can’t afford a new (generic music device) after the last one went for a dip in the washing machine? Looking for new sources of music? Wanna support local acts?

Why not try some local indie radio… I know its a ridiculous premise but it can indeed be found: Good music, on the radio.

Triple J - Nationally broadcast on 105.7 on the web at www.abc.net.au/triplej/

Hardly local, As part of the ABC Triple J doesn’t have the same aura of independence as some of the stations below, but still plays awesome tracks, has good solid presenters and a commitment to Independent music.

Shows that top the list are BREAKFAST with ROBBIE, MARIEKE and THE DOCTOR (their caps) and any LIVE AT THE WIRELESS - MONDAYS that takes your fancy. The live recordings are done by a really top notch crew, so they always sound awesome, almost as good as being there.

And now on to the local stations:

Fbi Radio - www.fbi.org.au on the web, 94.5 on the dial

50% local music, with 50% of that being from sydney (25% of the total for those playing at home)

Standout shows are Sunsets 6-8pm weekdays and The Bridge 8-9pm.

Sunsets is a great way to finish the workday, driving home with some fresh club tunes. The Bridge showcases Sydney talent, a great way to find a band/act that you can actually see live, probably that weekend.

Supported by listeners and community sponsors, the music directors pull no punches and bow to no man. Basically they play what they want and let you decide, which is awesome.

Outside Sydney I have to mostly work on hearsay and recommendations. But here is a breakdown:

Brisbane has TuneFM - available at 106.9 on the dial or www.tunefm.net

Newcastle has ThisIsNotRadio - or TinRadio, on the web at http://www.tin.org.au/ and 100.5 on the FM

Melbourne has TripleR - on the web at http://www.rrr.org.au/ or 102.7FM

WA can tune in to RTRfm - http://www.rtrfm.com.au/ or 92.1

I am sure there are many more that I don’t know about, or I hope so at least… Send em in if you know em
