MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

I got around to picking up a copy of this album off iTunes the other day and here is my one-week impression.

Damn. I missed the boat on this one! haha. The songs that have been in high-rotation on my local independent radio stations are good, but they dont bring the sense of cohesiveness that listening to the whole album provides. Go buy it now if you haven’t already

Seriously go…

We can wait…

On Off On Again (and again)

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Not to push this guy down your throat any further, im sure our last gushing post was enough to get you feeling our enthusiasm for this LA DJ, but damn it if he hasn’t done it again! Jumping over here you will find a remix of Tears for Fears Shout (as in Shout, Shout, let it all out… you know the one)

In a first for ThatIndieShop.Com we have an original track by On Off On for your listening pleasure. He brings his signiature glitch/electronic style blended with vocoded vocals in the vein of Daft Punk, an homage that I am sure was intentional.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Then there is the rest of his back catalogue we asked for permission to post but never got round too, after the jump (more…)

Short Hiatus - Over Now

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Hey all, I was just in Queensland for a long weekend to escape the pilgrimage to my home town. Now a few brain cells lighter we return, with some ridiculously good news. We have some indie band interviews undertaken by my fearless friend Mitch that will be available just as soon as we figure out which of the buttons on our mastering software makes everything sound good… But onwards we march. Today’s pick of delicious tunes is:

Go here now, do it! You will be rewarded with an embarassment of riches. Well, if you scoot past the (to me) unintelligible Swedish(?) you will find some remixes by Yuksek which are sweet indeed.

What do you get when you mix 5 teenage filipino sisters and Eleanor Rigby? A ridiculously cool cover that’s what. Jazzy and haunting by turns, its on that page somewhere. Seek it out and enjoy. Diddy-Wah (the people who posted said track) say “If you know of a better version of this song please get in touch because I’m about to call it. Best version ever.” I prefer the original… but one of the most amazing covers I would agree.

Jump back in a bit for those interviews and maybe a free sample or two…

(Edited much later: I realise I never came back with the full review of David Ford’s music, wouldja believe they wont sell it to Australian Citizens? *sigh*)

David Ford - I’m alright now

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

It All Started With Carbon Monoxide have posted a video and song from British artist David ford. This guy is news to us, but as these are releases from his second album we clearly missed the boat here. It’s a clever and soulful track (I’m alright now) from an album that will feature as a review soon. Check it out and come back for a full report
